LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Dear Reader:

The vast majority of the American public is unaware the US put the first chemical weapons in Iraq to fight against Iran years ago.  Also, the West does not understand how far back into its past the East reaches, and why then Hussein did not feel obligated to honor the relatively-recently, Western-imposed country lines which cut out Iraq's oil fields to create the tiny, elitist, oil-rich Kuwait at the expense of Iraq's massive, destitute population.

Continuing the sanctions which are killing many Iraqis daily could do nothing but halt inspections.  Continuing the sanctions is revealing the US as an inhumane, belligerent, genocidal bully in the international community.  The cruel policy against Iraq, the cradle of civilization, is truly frightening, if not prophetic.  Ending sanctions against Iraq will create a happier, friendlier Iraq with which to resume inspections.

This is the US's ad UN's big opportunity to demonstrate evolutionary intelligence on a truly grand scale in this milestone of international diplomacy.  Also, how about some mediation to return some of Iraq's oil fields from Kuwait to a starving Iraqi population?  This is the true remedy to the malady whereas the chemical weapons are only a symptom.  Further, we can utilize our troops to provide life-saving, urgently-needed medical assistance and revitalization to the down-trodden Iraqi population.  One can only hope that the US and UN policy-makers have the courage and long-term vision in this time of crisis to do the right thing which rarely ever is the easy thing to do, and that mankind is this enlightened and civilized.

Thank you very much for your concern and assistance with this matter of utmost human and historical importance on the brink of war.
